The 2022 MLB season is here! Thursday’s Opening Day action didn’t disappoint, and Friday kept the party going with clutch performances, mascot antics and more.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox wrote another chapter in their historic rivalry, with Josh Donaldson providing the walk-off win in extra innings. The Detroit Tigers started off their season with another win in walk-off fashion against the Chicago White Sox.

Other highlights from the second day of the MLB season included the Philadelphia Phillies cruising to victory against the Oakland Athletics, the loaded Los Angeles Dodgers outlasting the Colorado Rockies, then Robbie Ray and Carlos Correa making their debuts for the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins, respectively. Later in the evening, the Toronto Blue Jays rallied back from a seven-inning deficit en route to a 10-8 victory over the Texas Rangers. Also, Jeff McNeil and Jeremy Peña scored particularly memorable home runs.

The Miami Marlins and San Francisco Giants also began their 162-game journeys on Friday.

Takeaways from Friday’s action

Blue Jays defeat Rangers 10-8: The Jays are the consensus favorite in the American League — 29 of ESPN’s 38 voters picked them to win the tough AL East and 16 of 38 to go to the World Series. The belief: The rotation is potentially really good and the bullpen hopefully good enough. But, the main reason so many are on the Toronto bandwagon: the lineup.
