Eastleigh boosted their play-off hopes and subjected Barnet to a fourth defeat from their last five matches, with a 3-0 Vanarama National League victory.
Tyrone Barnett scored against Barnet for the second time this season in the ninth minute, heading in Pierce Bird’s pass.
With 72 minutes gone, Eastleigh were awarded a penalty after Bees keeper Adam Parkes brought down Adam Marriott and Joe Tomlinson converted.
Sam Smart’s cross-shot eight minutes from time wrapped up the points, with Eastleigh now four points off the top seven and Barnet eight points adrift at the foot of the table.
The defeat sees the Bees return to a much more familiar pattern of defeats, after picking up wins Aldershot, Altrincham and Weymouth following the arrival of manager Simon Bassey.
Four of their last five matches have now ended in loss, taking their defeats total to 29 for the season so far, with two matches still to play.
One of those was due to take place on Tuesday evening, away at Solihull, but was postponed following torrential rain in Warwickshire.
The game was called off at 7.45pm following a pitch inspection by the match referee.
“Unfortunately we have lost this evening’s game to the weather,” Solihull posted on their official Twitter account.
“We have endured heavy deluges of rain this afternoon which has resulted in areas of concern on the pitch.”
Manager Bassey felt the scoreline flattered Eastleigh at the weekend and said his team needs to get better at taking their chances.
“In all honesty, until the second goal went in, I couldn’t fault the lads I thought they were excellent,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.
“We gave a poor goal away, but I thought we started quite well. We reacted well to the goal. I think we were the dominant team.
“We said at half time we wanted to start well, after last week certainly, we started excellently and how we haven’t scored three or four today, I don’t know. But we haven’t and that’s a problem, certainly when you’re conceding the goals we are.
“We were controlling the game and in the ascendancy and we decided to just go off piste and do what we want. All of sudden we give a ridiculous goal away and then we’re chasing the game.”
