Plans for a new 129-room hotel on the site of a former car park were resoundingly rejected by councillors on the basis it would “dominate” the area’s skyline.

Harrow Council’s planning committee refused permission for the development in Vaughan Road Car Park, West Harrow.

Developer Dandi Living sought to provide a new ‘aparthotel’ – a hotel complex with some rooms catering for longer stays – alongside a restaurant and other commercial facilities in a building up to 12 storeys.

However, the committee unanimously agreed with council planning officers’ recommendation that it be refused on grounds it would be wholly “inappropriate” for this location.

A former journalist who boosted the membership of an older people’ s group died aged 95.

He was also extremely active in discussions with groups such as Enfield Council, primary care trusts and leisure centres to try to improve their quality of life.

Undercover police were reportedly shot at while chasing a group of people through a housing estate.

Ten plain clothes police officers were on patrol in the Grahame Park Estate in Colindale responding to information that there was a large gathering in the area.

The force said officers approached a group of around six males who ran off.

When the officers chased them, it is believed that a firearm was discharged a number of times by one of the suspects towards the unarmed officers .

No one was injured.
