It follows a “day of dance” put on by the Iberian Folk Dance Company at the Beaumont Care Home.

“Dancing is great for memory and wellbeing,” care home manager Beatrice Godfrey said. “People express themselves and ‘let loose’ when the body releases happy hormones.”

The dance company was founded by Lucille Armstrong back in 1970 while teaching English in Spain and Portugal. It has 22 members, the oldest being 90 and the youngest 29.

People hear them from the street and often come in to watch, which sometimes gets them new and younger members.

The care home run by Barchester Health at Cannon Hill, in Old Southgate village, has puts on activities where residents get the chance to do something they’ve never had the chance to do, like Spanish dancing, to keep active physically and mentally.
