‘Difficult to verify what happened’ during deadly Gazan aid truck rush

Thousands of Palestinians flocked to an aid distribution point early Thursday, desperate for food amid Gaza’s looming famine, only to be met with lethal chaos. By mid-afternoon the Hamas-run health ministry said more than 100 people were reported dead and blamed Israeli troops, but there were conflicting reports on what exactly unfolded in the hours before dawn. A spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office said many of the dead were crushed by the trucks themselves. “It is difficult to verify exactly what happened,” says FRANCE 24 reporter Andrew Hilliar, reporting live from Jerusalem.
