Wales’ First Minister Mark Drakeford has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 67-year-old was not in the Senedd chamber for First Minister’s Questions on Tuesday, instead taking questions from his office.

He is understood to have taken a PCR test earlier this week.

A spokesman said: “The First Minister of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus after taking a PCR test. He is self-isolating and working remotely.”

Officials have previously confirmed Mr Drakeford has had his vaccinations and booster.

It comes a day before Mr Drakeford was due to announce the latest review of coronavirus restrictions in Wales.

It is understood that Economy minister Vaughan Gething will now lead the news conference on Friday.

Current rules in Wales mean anyone who tests positive for COVID can leave isolation after five days if they test negative on lateral flow tests on day five and day six.
