At a former state farm in southern Germany, researchers are rearing pigs they hope could help save thousands of lives around the world. The animals are part of a programme that aims to genetically modify, clone and then breed pigs, so that their hearts can be transplanted into human patients as a solution to chronic organ-donor shortages.
